wshobson/agents is one of the largest community collections for Claude Code. Instead of one giant install, it splits its content into 94 plugins, so you add only the specialists you need, such as a Python plugin with Django and FastAPI experts, or a security-scanning plugin.
Two terms first. A subagent is a helper Claude Code can hand part of a job to; Anthropic’s docs describe it as running in its own context window with its own instructions and tool access, then returning a summary. A plugin marketplace is a catalog you register once, then install plugins from by name.
What it does (plain English)
The repository is a Claude Code plugin marketplace registered under the name claude-code-workflows. The README’s numbers, which matched our own file count on 2026-10-18:
| Component | Count | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Plugins | 94 (92 local, 2 external) | Installable groups |
| Agents | 202 | Specialist subagents |
| Skills | 185 | Reference guidance loaded when relevant |
| Commands | 105 | Named workflows, such as scaffolding a project |
A plugin groups related parts. python-development, for example, holds three agents (python-pro, django-pro, fastapi-pro), sixteen skills and a /python-development:python-scaffold command.
Each agent declares a model. The repo’s agent reference counts 54 agents set to opus, 70 to sonnet, 24 to haiku, 2 to fable (a model alias the repo describes as a tier above Opus) and 52 to inherit (use whatever model your session uses).
The same Markdown source also installs into other coding tools (OpenAI Codex CLI, Cursor, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot and others) through adapters. On VibeAtlas we cover the Claude Code route.
Is it for you?
Good fit if you build software with Claude Code and want domain experts on call: Kubernetes, payments, database design, SEO, accessibility, and many more. The quick-start table in the README points beginners to four plugins: python-development, javascript-typescript, developer-essentials and security-scanning.
Not a fit for claude.ai chat users. Subagents run in Claude Code and Cowork, not in chat.
What you can do with it
- Scaffold a Python service. Install
python-development, then run/python-development:python-scaffold Create a FastAPI service with tests. This is the README’s own example. - Get a second opinion on code. Install
developer-essentialsfor skills on code review, debugging, Git workflows and SQL optimization, plus a monorepo architect agent. - Run a security pass. Install
security-scanningfor dependency checks and code scanning workflows. - Grab one skill.
npx skills add wshobson/agents --skill python-testing-patternsinstalls only that skill, without agents, commands or hooks.
How to set it up
- Open Claude Code in your project.
- Run
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents. Claude Code prints the registered name,claude-code-workflows. - Run
/plugin install developer-essentials@claude-code-workflows(or another plugin from the catalog). - In the details pane, read Will install, then pick a scope.
- Use it: ask Claude to “use the monorepo-architect agent”, or type
/to see the plugin’s commands.
Our check on 2026-10-18 in Claude Code 2.1.302: both commands succeeded. claude plugin details reported developer-essentials version 1.0.4 with 11 skills, 1 agent and about 1,055 tokens of always-on context. We did not run the agent on a task.
Watch out for
- Third-party marketplace. Anthropic does not review it, and auto-update is off by default for third-party marketplaces. That second point is a safety feature: turn auto-update on only if you trust future changes.
- Hooks in some plugins. Two plugins in the copy we read (
protect-mcpandreview-agent-governance) include hook scripts, which Claude Code runs as shell commands outside its sandbox. Readhooks/hooks.jsonbefore installing those. - Context adds up. Every installed plugin adds its skill and agent descriptions to each session. Install a few focused plugins, not dozens; check with
claude plugin details <name>. - Model choice costs usage. Agents pinned to
opususe more of your plan thanhaikuones. - External entries. One external entry, Pensyve, is maintained by a company the repo’s maintainer founded; the README notes its hosted cloud closed on October 1, 2026 and points to self-hosting.
Alternatives
- VoltAgent subagents: a simpler collection of standalone subagent files in 10 category plugins.
- Claude Code official marketplace: Anthropic’s catalog, including
feature-devandcode-reviewagents. - Claude Code Templates: an npx installer that copies individual agents, commands and settings into your project.
